Islamabad (Urdu Point / Pakistan Point News – 25 March 2026) A high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Federalism Overseas Pakistanis Minister Salik Hussain reviewed in detail the progress made in facilitating Pakistanis’ access to Spanish residence card.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Home Affairs Talal Chaudhry, Federal Minister for Home Affairs, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, Director General of FIA, Additional Secretary for External Affairs, MD OPF, as well as senior officials from National Disaster Management Authority and Directorate General of Immigration and Passports.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Spain Dr. Zahoor Ahmed, Consul General in Barcelona Muhammad Ali Wazir, and Community Welfare Attaché joined the session via Zoom.
It has been decided that before the upcoming settlement scheme in Spain for illegal immigrants, passports and other required documents will be issued to Pakistani applicants within one week. Minister Salik Hussain noted that nearly 15,000 Pakistanis are expected to benefit from the Spanish scheme.
Salik Hussain expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Interior for its strong support to the Pakistani community in Spain.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stressed that speedy issuance of passports to overseas Pakistanis is a top priority. But he directed not to issue a passport to any criminal or wanted person. He also ordered the immediate deployment of additional staff at the Passport Department of the Pakistani Embassy in Spain.
Naqvi further stated that the National Police Bureau has significantly simplified and expedited the verification process of police character certificates, which are now being issued on a priority basis.
Ambassador Dr Zahoor Ahmed and the Consul General gave a detailed briefing, noting that all relevant institutions are working together to ensure timely provision of essential documents to Pakistani citizens. The briefing highlighted that the issuance of passports and CV certificates has accelerated significantly.
The embassy and consulate have so far issued 10,000 authorization letters to applicants as part of the facilitation process.
