PESHAWAR, April 5, 2026 AD) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has officially launched a high-tech ‘panic button’ system across the provincial city to enhance public safety and emergency response, Safe City Project Deputy Director Noman Rafi said on Sunday.
As a key component of the ongoing Safe City project, these buttons serve as a sophisticated means of two-way communication designed to provide citizens with an immediate lifeline during emergency situations.
He explained that the system goes beyond traditional reporting by starting an instant video call the moment the button is pressed.
This allows the user in the command center to visually assess the scene of an incident and communicate directly with the complainant to ensure a quick and accurate response to accidents, crimes or medical crises.
The deployment of this technology has been meticulously planned after conducting a comprehensive initial survey of the most vulnerable and congested areas of the city.
Currently, 68 panic buttons have been strategically installed in various public squares, crowded commercial markets and near girls’ colleges to enhance the safety of female students and shoppers.
This visible police presence is intended to deter criminal activity. Based on the success of the initial launch, the authorities have already decided to expand the network significantly, with plans to increase the total number of panic buttons to 150 across the city.
This initiative represents a major milestone for Peshawar Police, transforming the provincial capital into a smarter and safer environment, where emergency assistance is now just a click of a button away.
