The state meteorological department in Srinagar noted that weather conditions will remain largely dry, creating favorable conditions for the increasing heatwave across the region. The forecast covers areas on both sides of the Line of Control (LoC), incl Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) as well as Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
According to officials at the Meteorological Center in Srinagar, mainly dry weather is likely to prevail over the coming days, while clear skies are expected to dominate the atmosphere. Therefore, daytime temperatures are expected to rise significantly above the seasonal average, and nighttime temperatures may also gradually rise. Meteorologists said maximum temperatures could settle well above normal levels in early March, marking a significant departure from the usual weather pattern.
Weather experts noted that the expected rise contrasts sharply with the recent cold conditions the region witnessed last week. Independent forecaster Faizan Arif also told the media in Srinagar that the plains on both sides of the Line of Control may be affected more severely, especially by the end of the week, when heatwave-like conditions start developing. Moreover, a prolonged dry spell may intensify warming trends in vulnerable low-lying areas of Jammu province and Kashmir Valley.
However, authorities advised residents to be cautious and limit prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, while ensuring adequate hydration during the unseasonably warm days ahead. Experts said dry and hot conditions could last for several days, while raising concerns about potential impacts on existing crops and orchards across the fertile agricultural belt.
