Lahore (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 21 March 2026) Punjab Inspector General of Police Abdul Karim on Saturday extended his heartfelt greetings to citizens across the province, including Lahoreas well as to officers and police personnel on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, with the announcement of the deployment of more than 47,000 officers and officials to ensure security at more than 29,000 Eid gatherings across Punjab.
The police said in a statement that the police are on high alert to ensure a peaceful and safe environment for citizens to perform their religious duties during Eid.
He added that in the provincial capital alone, more than 10,000 officers and police personnel were deployed to carry out security duties.
Abdul Karim directed, with the assistance of Special Branch, Counter-Terrorism Department and other security agencies, to maintain strict vigil against terrorists and miscreants.
He instructed that personnel deployed at mosques, police checkpoints, sit-ins and other sensitive locations remain on high alert. He also stressed the continuous monitoring of mosques, imams and important sites through surveillance cameras.
The IGP also directed the Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit (PRU) and elite squads to ensure effective patrolling around mosques, markets and major public places.
He reiterated that he would not, under any circumstances, allow shooting from a single aircraft, shooting from the air, riots, or flying kites.
The IGP also instructed Regional Police Officers (RPOs), District Police Officers (DPOs) and senior officials to personally supervise security arrangements for the Eid.
He also directed the deployment of additional personnel to maintain the smooth flow of traffic on major highways, parks, cemeteries and other recreational and public places.
