WAPDA allocates Rs 94.23 million to fund 75 girls’ schools to enhance education in Diamer Basha Dam Project area

Gilgit (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 24 March, 2026) Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has taken another initiative to promote education, especially girls’ education, in the Diamer Basha Dam project area.

Diamer spokesperson Bhasa Dam said that WAPDA had approved Rs. $94.23 million in funding for 75 schools in the Diamer region under the Community Accelerated Learning Schools (CBALS) programme.

WAPDA has allocated funds from its emergency budget to ensure its continued operation. Under the agreed arrangement, these schools will now be operated over the next three years through structured collaboration with joint supervision by WAPDA, Gilgit-Baltistan Education Department, and READ Foundation. WAPDA also agreed to rehabilitate five selected government schools in Tanga and Darrell, besides providing basic educational facilities and two bases to transport students to schools.

This initiative is being taken at the suggestion of Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts and will be implemented under the joint supervision of WAPDA, GB Ministry of Education and GB Scouts. Besides repair and rehabilitation works, furniture, stationery and other basic educational facilities will also be provided in these schools. In this regard, WAPDA has officially informed the Deputy Director of Education, Diamer, of the need for immediate implementation of the project.
