ISLAMABAD (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – April 6, 2026) During its meeting here on Monday, the Ministerial Committee on Gasoline Prices reviewed the oil supply situation and market conditions, with a focus on sustained supply, market discipline and enhanced monitoring across the supply chain.

The committee meeting was chaired by Federal Minister of Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, according to the press release issued by the Ministry of Finance.

The committee conducted a comprehensive review of oil inventory conditions, import plans and refining operations, the statement said, adding that members were informed that the overall supply situation remains stable, with diesel inventories providing approximately 25 days of coverage, gasoline availability sufficient to meet current demand, and crude oil inventories at approximately 12 days of coverage, supported by inbound cargo and scheduled imports.

The Petroleum Division informed the Committee that import arrangements for the coming weeks are on track through a combination of commercial purchases and government-to-government contracts, while refineries continue to operate at optimal levels to maintain productivity and ensure efficient conversion of crude oil into refined products.

The committee also noted the critical importance of reliable energy supplies in supporting key sectors such as agriculture, fertilizer production, transportation and industry, which confirms their role in sustaining economic activity and maintaining price stability.

In light of recent price movements, the committee emphasized continued vigilance across the supply chain to prevent hoarding, speculative behavior, and any disruption to product availability.

The importance of closely monitoring demand patterns, including local changes in consumption, to support balanced supply management was highlighted. The committee also stressed the need to discourage unauthorized stockpiling and address market violations within the regulatory framework.

The committee also reviewed the gas supply situation, including the stock positions of SNGPL and SSGC, and discussed options for managing gas availability to domestic consumers and allocating it between the domestic sector and the power sector. Members emphasized a balanced, data-driven approach to ensure efficient use of resources, especially in light of seasonal demand and increased reliance on LPG.

The Committee placed particular emphasis on strengthening data-driven monitoring and oversight through the digital dashboard launched by OGRA, which is designed to provide real-time visibility into inventory levels, sales and supply conditions from warehouses to retail outlets.

The dashboard is expected to serve as a central tool for tracking key indicators, including sales, inventory and demand fluctuations, enabling timely identification of supply gaps and informed decision-making.

Acknowledging the progress made, the Committee noted that data reporting from retail outlets remains below expectations, particularly given the volume of more than 12,000 petrol pumps nationwide, and stressed the need for the system to be fully operational to achieve its intended benefits.

On this occasion, the Finance Minister emphasized the importance of timely data integration and directed all stakeholders to ensure rapid and accurate exchange of information to support effective use of the dashboard in decision making.

OGRA is directed to ensure compliance with data reporting requirements, accelerate digitalization efforts across the supply chain, and maintain close coordination with Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and other relevant stakeholders to support smooth implementation of the system.

In this context, PSO will enhance visibility across its retail network and enhance reporting coverage on a priority basis.

To enhance implementation, it was decided to deploy joint teams comprising representatives of the Petroleum Division, OGRA, FIA and Pakistan State Oil (PSO) at selected PSO petrol pumps in Islamabad to support timely data entry, improve inventory transparency, and ensure operational compliance.

The Committee stressed the importance of institutionalizing these mechanisms to enhance oversight, enhance accountability and enhance consistency in reporting practices across the retail network.

The Minister reiterated that maintaining market stability requires proactive coordination, effective monitoring and consistent enforcement. He stressed that ensuring uninterrupted fuel availability, improving transparency, and protecting consumers remain key priorities, while encouraging responsible consumer behavior.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister of Petroleum Ali Parvez Malik. Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr Musadiq Masood Malik; Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain (virtual); Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chowdhury (virtual), Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Owais Ahmad Khan Leghari (virtual), along with federal secretaries and senior officials from relevant ministries, departments and regulatory authorities.
