Senate President pays tribute to Bhutto on the 47th anniversary of her death

Rawalpindi (Urdu Point Network, April 4, 2026) Senate President Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani mourned the martyr Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on the 47th anniversary of his death, describing his political, social and national contributions as unforgettable, and described him as a shining symbol of democracy, ideology and people’s empowerment.

He was giving a speech at a symposium organized by me Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Rawalpindi The city is in Rawalpindi Arts Council.

Gilani said that April 4 is a painful day in national history, reminding the nation of the sacrifices made for democracy and the rights of the people. He stressed that the 1973 Constitution was Bhutto’s historic achievement, as it provided a strong foundation for the democratic structure of Pakistan.

He pointed out that the establishment of the Senate reflects the formation of Bhutto Federalism Vision, giving the provinces equal representation and reducing feelings of deprivation.

He added that the 18th Constitutional Amendment strengthened democracy by empowering provinces. Gilani also praised Bhutto for raising Pakistan’s international profile, giving the nation a clear identity and empowering citizens through the right to vote while protecting fundamental rights. He recalled the role Bhutto played in laying the foundations for Pakistan’s nuclear program and establishing major industrial projects such as the Pakistan Steel Mills, which strengthened national defense and created job opportunities.

The Senate President said that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto continued her father’s mission, while Asif Ali Zardari strengthened Parliament through the 18th Amendment. He added that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari represents the youth and with a large youth population, Pakistan has a bright future.

In his speech, former Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said that he saw Zulfikar Ali Bhutto as a brave leader and a friend of the people. He said that Bhutto gave power to the common man through the right to vote and laid the foundation for true democracy in Pakistan.

He also praised the role of Benazir Bhutto and said that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari continues to struggle to promote democracy. Raja Pervez Ashraf urged party workers to remain united and focus on public service.

Other speakers, including Chaudhry Yasin, former PPP managing director Amir Vida Paracha and PPP Rawalpindi city chief Mian Khurram Rasool, also praised Bhutto’s political and public services.

At the end of the symposium, Gilani Mian Khurram Rasool congratulated him for organizing this event.
