Lahore, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 6th March, 2026) The Punjab government has decided to establish a Cybercrime Investigation Department to effectively investigate and prevent the increasing cybercrimes across Punjab.
According to officials, the move has been approved by the Punjab Chief Minister. The aim of this newly created department is to take action against rising crimes such as online fraud, hacking, social media crimes and digital extortion.
As per the notification issued, Additional IG of Logistics and Procurement Punjab Fawad Uddin Qureshi has been appointed as the nodal person for this project.
Police sources say that on the instructions of Inspector General Punjab Abdul Karim, DIG headquarters Punjab has issued an official notification in this regard.
According to sources, the Cybercrime Investigation Department will also receive technical and investigative support from the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency, which will make anti-cybercrime measures in the province more effective.
