ISLAMABAD (Urdu Point / Pakistan Point News – April 4, 2026) Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Friday announced a major relief package for the masses, cutting aid. price to gasoline By Rs 80 per litre, to Rs 378 per liter from Rs 458, the subsidy targets drivers of motorbikes, freight vehicles as well as passenger buses.
In a televised address to the nation, the Prime Minister said the new reduced petrol price will remain unchanged over the next month and this will be possible by reducing petrol tax by Rs 80.
He said no Federalism Provincial governments will work together to mobilize maximum resources to support the public amid economic challenges, especially those arising from the ongoing conflict in middle east.
He also announced targeted support for the transport sector, including Rs 100 per liter for owners of motorcycles, goods and public transport vehicles. A subsidy of Rs 70,000 per month will be given to small trucks, Rs 80,000 to large trucks and Rs 100,000 to passenger buses.
Additionally, as a gesture of austerity and solidarity with the public, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that all members of the federal government will forgo their salaries for the next six months – to help generate funds for general relief measures.
