OGDC announces gas discovery at Sahito 1 exploration well in Khairpur, Sindh

Islamabad, March 26, 2026 Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) on Thursday announced a significant gas discovery in the Sahito-1 exploration well in the Khiwari exploration license located in Khairpur district of Sindh.

Based on interpretation of wireline logs resultsThe Lower Juru Formation sands (massive sands) were tested using a drill stem test (DST) and yielded a promising flow of 17.2 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas.

The well recorded a flow pressure at the wellhead of 3,390 fairy per square inch (psi) at a throttle volume of 32/64 inches, indicating strong tank capabilities.

OGDC is the operator of the Sahito-1 well with a 95 percent operating interest, while Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) holds a 5 percent interest.

The well was drilled on 24 December 2025 as an exploratory well, and was drilled to a total depth of 3,870 meters TVD in the Simba Formation using OGDC’s in-house technical expertise.

This discovery represents a major milestone in OGDC’s exploration efforts and reinforces its commitment to advance them PakistanLocal energy resources.

This discovery is expected to contribute to reducing the gap between energy supply and demand in the country while enhancing hydrocarbon reserves for both the joint venture partners and the nation.
