More than 1.8 million acres are planted to wheat with potential for higher production

Faisalabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 25 March, 2026) More than 1.8 million acres of land have been cultivated with wheat across the province during the current season, exceeding the fixed target by 0.27 percent.

The Ministry of Agriculture expects the average yield to reach 40,000 per acre this year, compared to 38.09 thousand per acre last year.

This was revealed by Director of Agriculture (Extension) Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood during a meeting of the Wheat Crop Procurement and Wheat Crop Status Committee headed by Commissioner Raja Jehangir Anwar on Wednesday.

Deputy Commissioner FaisalabadCaptain (retd) Nadeem Nasir attended the meeting, while deputy commissioners from Jhang, Toba Tek Singh and Chiniot joined via video link.

Representatives of farmers’ organizations were also present.

During the press conference, Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood said that the department is constantly working to increase wheat production by 2 to 3 mun per acre annually, adding that this year’s crop is expected to exceed 40 mun per acre.

He pointed out that the wheat crop is in good condition and the wheat purchasing policy will be announced in the coming days.

The Commissioner directed officials to ensure that farmers’ rights are fully protected during the procurement drive and stressed on strict action against middlemen.

Later, while talking to farmers, he said that another meeting of the committee will be held after the wheat procurement policy is announced.
