ISLAMABAD (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – April 8, 2026) Since the United States and Iran have agreed to an immediate ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon, the stage is set for direct negotiations in Islamabad on Friday, April 10, 2026, aimed at finalizing a “final agreement” to settle all disputes.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the breakthrough on Wednesday, as Iran and the United States, along with their allies, agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere, including Lebanon and elsewhere.
“With all humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere, effective immediately,” the Prime Minister wrote in his tenth schedule.
He warmly welcomed the “wise gesture” from both sides, and invited the delegations of the United States and Iran to Islamabad on April 10 for further talks to reach a “final agreement.”

Following the ceasefire, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council announced, in a statement, that its armed forces would halt “defensive operations” if attacks against Iran stopped. Moreover, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz for two weeks will be possible through coordination with the Iranian Armed Forces and taking into account technical restrictions.
The Council also announced that negotiations will take place in Islamabad to finalize the details.
He added, “The negotiations will begin on Friday in Islamabad. Iran will allocate two weeks to these negotiations, and the time frame can be extended by mutual agreement between the two sides.”
Iranian Foreign Minister Syed Abbas Araqchi also thanked Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asem Munir for their tireless efforts to end the war in the region.
