Lahore (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 29 March 2026) Union Organizer Pakistan Imran Shahid, Regional Committee for Food, Chambers of Commerce and Industry, said importers based in the Gulf have approached Pakistan. food Exporters to secure reliable supplies amid ongoing tension in the region.

He assured the media here on Sunday that Pakistani exporters are receiving inquiries regarding a wide range of commodities including rice, wheat, meat, fruits and processed food items.

He said this represents an opportune opportunity for Pakistan to enhance its export footprint, provided that its quality, packaging and logistics standards meet international requirements.

Imran Shahid said that the government has already given the start signal to export surplus foodstuffs to Gulf countries, while protecting local needs.

He urged stakeholders to leverage this opportunity by ensuring consistency, compliance and adding value to enhance Pakistan’s position as a reliable food partner in the region.

The Gulf region, which relies on imports for up to 80-90 percent of its food needs, faces growing concerns about food security as shipping through vital routes such as the Strait of Hormuz remains uncertain, FPCCI convener said. In this scenario, Pakistan emerges as a viable and competitive supplier due to its strong agricultural base and geographical proximity.
