Islamabad, March 12, 2026 SK Hydro Private Limited launched its eighth annual afforestation campaign along the Kunhar River, planting thousands of saplings in partnership with local authorities to support Pakistan’s tree planting programme.
More than 160,000 trees have been planted so far, strengthening environmental protection around the SK hydropower project and reinforcing the company’s commitment to green development.
The campaign, titled “Beautify Kunhar Riverbank, Build Green Power Plant Together”, was jointly organized by the local government, forest department, EPA and the project’s operation and maintenance contractor.
Participants planted saplings on hillsides, adding vitality to the landscape and reducing soil erosion near the project site. Every lift and fall of shovels planted seedlings of hope, continued the commitment to green development, and realized corporate social responsibility.
Years of continuous afforestation efforts have not only effectively reduced soil erosion near the project, but also greatly improved the environmental landscape of the power plant.
It represents a vivid example of Chinese enterprises practicing green development, and a profound testimony to the joint pursuit of Chinese and Pakistani construction enterprises to “promote green development and achieve win-win coexistence.”
As the largest hydropower investment project by a Chinese company abroad and also the largest hydropower project invested by CEEC abroad, the SK Hydropower project successfully started commercial operations on September 14, 2024.
To date, the project has succeeded in providing a cumulative total of more than 3.1 billion kilowatt-hours of clean electricity. He has injected strong green momentum into improving Pakistan’s energy structure and high-quality economic and social development, while writing an influential chapter on environmental cooperation and mutual benefit between China and Pakistan through concrete actions.
