
Brussels (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News / WAM – 26 March 2026) Expert Team from The European Food Security Crisis Preparedness and Response Mechanism (EFSCM) held a meeting today to take stock of developments in food security. middle Eastern and its potential impact on agriculture and food sector within the union.
The meeting was held within the framework of the European Forum on Food and Drug Administration (EFSCM), where discussions focused on the impacts of geopolitical crises in the region on trade flows, energy supplies and the fertilizer market – vital elements for stabilizing agricultural production and food supply chains.
This mechanism is part of the emergency plan approved by the government European Union Strengthening the security of food supplies, by bringing together Member States, the private sector and non-governmental organizations across various sectors of the food chain, with the aim of improving preparedness and coordinating response to crises.
The European Commission stressed that the European Union’s food system continues to show relative flexibility, given the European Union’s heavy reliance on self-production of many agricultural products, despite the increasing global challenges. He stressed that the recent crises – incl Russian War on UkraineCommodities rise Pricesand the COVID-19 pandemic – highlighted the importance of effective mechanisms to ensure the availability of food at affordable and sustainable prices.
Since its establishment, the mechanism has issued three sets of recommendations, including improving crisis communication, diversifying sources of supply, and reducing risks in food supply chains, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen European UnionThe ability to face future challenges.
