CM Bugti urges revenue reforms as rising expenditure threatens financial stability in Balochistan

QUETTA (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 1 April, 2026) Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti has stressed the urgent need to boost provincial revenues, warning that rising non-development expenditures and shrinking development resources are putting increasing pressure on Balochistan’s financial sustainability.

Sarfraz Bugti, who chaired the third meeting of the Advisory Board of Balochistan Revenue Authority (BRA) in the Prime Minister’s Secretariat, stressed that strengthening the province’s revenue system is essential for achieving long-term financial stability.

The high-level meeting focused on strengthening the province’s revenue system, making it more efficient, transparent and compatible with modern practices.

The meeting approved several measures to modernize and simplify the revenue collection process to implement audit rules.

Digitization initiatives to automate processes and structural reforms to improve tax collection and governance.

During the meeting, Balochistan Revenue Authority Chairman Abdullah Khan briefed the participants on the performance of BRA, noting that nearly Rs. 20 one billion Half of the annual target of Rs.

$40 billion has already been achieved.

Chief Minister Bugti directed officials to strengthen field operations to ensure timely achievement of revenue targets. He stressed that increasing provincial revenues is no longer optional, but rather necessary.

“Non-development expenditures are constantly rising, while development funds are becoming increasingly constrained. Enhancing revenue generation in the province is inevitable,” he added.

He stressed the use of modern technology to ensure transparency and efficiency in tax collection.

The Prime Minister instructed the authorities to invest in vocational training for employees and engage experts from the private sector to modernize operations and enhance efficiency.

The participants reiterated their commitment to enhancing the financial independence of Balochistan by making the revenue system more robust and sustainable.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Mir Shoaib Noshirwani, Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, Principal Secretary Imran Zarkon, Excise and Excise Minister Syed Zafar Bukhari, among other senior officials.
