Sindh Secretary General Asif Haider Shah on Wednesday chaired an important meeting of the Committee of Secretaries to review the implementation of comprehensive austerity and fuel conservation measures approved by the Sindh Cabinet.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Planning and Development, Senior Member blackboard Revenue, Chairman of Anti-Corruption Foundation, secretaries of various departments and all departmental commissioners.

During the meeting, participants reviewed the steps taken by the governorate government to reduce expenses and conserve fuel in light of the prevailing global and regional conditions.

The Chief Secretary directed that the fuel quota for official vehicles be reduced by fifty percent for the next two months and all non-essential government vehicles be stopped immediately. Departments were also instructed to promote car sharing to reduce fuel consumption.

The meeting was informed that the Sindh government has imposed a complete ban on purchase of new government vehicles and other expensive durable items until June 2026 as part of austerity measures. The provincial government also decided to reduce unnecessary expenditures to ensure effective use of public resources.

Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah also said that a four-day working week will be implemented across regional government offices, with offices working from Monday to Thursday while Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays will be considered as holidays.

However, this policy will not apply to essential services and vital public institutions.

Regional ministers and advisors have also expressed their willingness to voluntarily give up salaries and bonuses for a specified period as part of the austerity drive. As part of a cost-saving initiative, formal breakfasts and formal government dinners have been banned except when visiting foreign delegations. All official meetings will now be conducted through video conferencing or online platforms to reduce travel costs and related expenses.

Concluding the meeting, the Chief Secretary Sindh directed all departmental secretaries and chief administrative officers to ensure strict implementation of austerity and fuel conservation measures across the province.
