Celebrating International Women’s Day at Shah Abdul Latif University

Sukkur (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 5 March, 2026) A seminar on CNIC registration and voter education was held at Shah Abdul Latif University on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

The event was jointly organized by Bhitai Social Watch and Advocacy (BSWA), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Aurat Foundation and the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Pakistani women leaders and the European Union on Thursday.

Khairpur District Election Commissioner Naeem Rahman said that special efforts are being made to increase the registration of women voters through awareness sessions and mobile Registration vehicles (MRVs) at the census block level.

Dr. Shahida Chandio stressed the need to provide women with strong political platforms to ensure comprehensive participation. Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari highlighted the basic rights of women including the right to vote, CNIC, and educationIt called for eliminating discrimination, forced and early marriage, promoting gender equality and increasing representation in Parliament.

Lawyer Khaleda Riaz, lawyer Ayesha Khand and Deepa Kumari stressed the constitutional protection of women’s rights and the empowerment of female counselors to address societal issues. Ali Sindhu highlighted the accessibility of persons with disabilities in registration centres.

Dr. Ali Reza Lashari presented the vote of thanks and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to promoting awareness and social inclusion. Shamila Rabab Rizvi moderated the proceedings. The ceremony was attended by a large number of women and students.

The project is funded by the European Union in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Aurat Foundation under the Pakistan Women Leaders Project, with the aim of facilitating the registration of 12,000 women in the new CNIC across five districts in Sindh.
