PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 30th March, 2026) An important meeting was held regarding transfer of Kohati Plaza to the Ministry of Health for setting up a modern healthcare facility and making it operational early.
The meeting was chaired by Health Minister Khaliqu Rahman and Local Government Minister.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from relevant departments, where various legal, administrative and operational aspects of the transfer of Kohati Plaza to the Health Department were discussed in detail, along with the overall way forward.
Ensuring the provision of timely and quality healthcare services, especially to residents of inner cities, remains the government’s top priority, Health Minister Khaliqur Rahman said.
He stressed that setting up a hospital at Kohati Plaza will not only provide accessible healthcare services at the local level, but will also significantly reduce the burden on major tertiary care hospitals.
During the meeting, the two ministers directed the Local Government Department and the Ministry of Health to effectively follow up on the matter on a priority basis and complete all necessary official procedures.
They were directed to prepare a comprehensive summary and submit it to the provincial cabinet for timely and appropriate decision-making.
The Minister of Local Government also highlighted the urgent need to establish a healthcare facility in the area, noting that this would ensure the availability of basic medical services at the doorstep of residents of the inner city.
It was also noted that the proposed hospital would help reduce the patient burden on major hospitals, especially Lady Reading Hospital and Naseerullah Babar Memorial Hospital, thereby improving the overall efficiency of the healthcare system.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both departments were directed to finalize their recommendations and submit them to the Cabinet during the current week to ensure timely deliberation and decision-making on this important initiative in the public interest.
