Lahore (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – April 5, 2026) The Punjab Agriculture Ministry has advised cotton farmers to plant their crops by April 30 and grow only varieties approved by the ministry.

Farmers should maintain plant-to-plant distance, a department spokesperson said here on Sunday

12 inches and a row spacing of 2 feet, 6 inches, ensuring a plant density of about 17,500 plants per acre.

The spokesperson also said that farmers should grow at least 10% non-GMO varieties alongside approved GMO varieties so that pests do not develop resistance to GMO crops.

In addition, he said he prefers to grow cotton on hills, either by adopting mechanical methods or by forming the hills first and then sowing manually.

He also said, “If seeding with a drill, keep 2.5 feet between rows.”

The spokesperson said hill farming provides multiple benefits, including improved weed control, improved fertilizer efficiency, water conservation and protecting crops from damage caused by rainfall.
