Pakistan is among the countries most affected by climate change. Increasing extreme weather events, rapid melting of glaciers, and worsening water shortages create serious challenges that require a strong and coordinated national response.
These challenges require better policies, stronger institutional accountability and active public engagement, the Senate said. She added that Earth Hour, although symbolic, reminds everyone of their common duty to protect the planet.
The statement stressed the need to adopt sustainable lifestyles, use energy efficiently, and follow environmentally friendly practices in all sectors.
The Senate reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening laws and oversight to support environmental protection, climate resilience and sustainable development.
She said efforts are being made to improve environmental management, conserve natural resources, promote renewable energy and protect ecosystems across the country.
She also pointed out that climate change is not only a national issue, but rather a responsibility towards future generations. It requires close coordination between Federalism and provincial governments and engage civil society, the private sector and citizens.
On the occasion, Senate President Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani urged people to play their role in protecting the environment and work towards making Pakistan cleaner and greener.
He said that the Senate remains committed to supporting policies that protect the environment and ensure a sustainable future for future generations.
