Islamabad, March 27, 2026 Ahead of the monsoon season, the district administration has initiated pre-monsoon procedures, with a review meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon to assess preparedness and ensure smooth drainage during the expected rainfall.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner General and all Assistant Commissioners. The officials exchanged updates on the ongoing work being carried out across the city under the monsoon plan.
During the briefing, participants were informed that a city-wide sewer cleaning campaign was underway. Work is being carried out on looms and waterways to remove waste and ensure uninterrupted water flow. The department is also removing encroachments built around water courses and drains to clear natural corridors and reduce the risk of water accumulation.
Officials submitted an inspection report on manholes across the city. The report highlighted the current status of inspection openings and identified areas in need of repairs or maintenance. The meeting also reviewed reports on low-lying areas prone to waterlogging during heavy rains.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the officers to provide details of the areas affected during the monsoon last year. The aim is to take targeted measures in those locations to avoid a repeat of the situations this year.
Speaking during the meeting, DC Irfan Memon said that the aim of the ongoing campaign is to improve the drainage system and support smooth flow of rainwater during the monsoon. He added that the cleaning campaign will continue during the next few days to cover all major and secondary drains throughout the city.
The Deputy Commissioner further stated that the administration is focusing on early preparedness to deal with any emergency during the monsoon season. He ordered all departments to remain alert and ensure coordination.
In addition to the cleaning work, the department has also been instructed to check flood control equipment and ensure its availability. This includes reviewing machinery and tools required in the event of heavy rain or flooding.
A briefing was also given on the flood control system and warning system implemented in the city. Officials discussed measures to improve response time and ensure timely alerts in case of rising water levels.
The district administration said that the ongoing efforts are aimed at reducing the risk of flooding in urban areas and ensuring that residents face less problems during the monsoon season. The Department plans to continue monitoring the situation and review progress in the coming days.
