Diplomats from 7 countries tour Russia’s Yamalo-Nenets region

Islamabad, March 26, 2026 Diplomats from 7 countries participated in a four-day visit from March 20 to 23, 2026, to the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Oblast in Russia, where they attended official meetings, visited energy sites, and joined cultural programs aimed at building international links and understanding of the region.

According to the State Protocol Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, heads and senior officials of foreign diplomatic missions based in Russia traveled to the cities of Salekhard and Novy Urengoy as part of an introductory tour. The visit was arranged in coordination with the regional government and Gazprom.

The delegation included representatives from Kyrgyzstan, China, Malaysia, PakistanSingapore, Slovakia and Turkey. The program covered a job Discussions, cultural visits and educational activities to provide a first-hand view of the area.

During the visit, the diplomats met with Governor Dmitry Artyukhov in Salekhard. The meeting focused on opportunities for cooperation in the fields of trade, economics and science. The officials discussed ways to strengthen ties between the region and the participating countries.

The delegation also visited major industrial sites to learn about the energy sector in the region. In Novy Urengoy, they toured the Urengoy field, one of the world’s largest oil and gas condensate fields in terms of reserves.

The site is operated by Gazprom Dubysha Urengoy, and is one of the company’s oldest gas production units in the Yamal region.

In addition to official engagements, diplomats participated in youth and cultural exchanges. They met young diplomats from the region at the Polaris technical headquarters, where the discussions were focused education and international cooperation.

The group also visited the Shimanowski District Museum and Exhibition Complex and the GAZ Art Center. These visits provided insight into the history, culture and traditions of the Yamalo-Nenets region.

Within the framework of activities related to the Year of Peoples’ Unity in Russia, diplomats attended events on the occasion of Reindeer Herders’ Day. The event showcased the traditions of indigenous communities in the North through displays and presentations.

The visit also included a ceremony held at the Eternal Flame in Victory Park in Salekhard. Diplomats laid flowers in honor of those who lost their lives in World War II.

The visit aims to showcase the region’s economic capacity, cultural heritage and tourism potential to foreign representatives while encouraging future cooperation, officials said.
