She attended a group wedding of five people who grew up in the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CPWB) as the chief guest here. The ceremony was also attended by CPWB President Sarah Ahmed, provincial ministers, senior officials and philanthropists.
Speaking at the event, Marium Aurangzeb described CPWB as a source of hope where children are provided with protection, educationThe training and skills necessary for self-reliance. The number of child protection centers has increased from seven to 17 across Punjab, and is currently supporting around 1,500 children, she added, saying the existing centers have also been upgraded to improve facilities.
The minister said that the office plays an effective role in rescuing children, rehabilitating them, preparing them for independent lives and arranging dignified marriages when they are ready.
Referring to the ‘Di Rani Programme’, she said that it is a unique initiative aimed at supporting the underprivileged groups, who are now active up to the union council level and help in addressing public issues.
Marium Aurangzeb also stressed the government’s commitment to eradicating child labour, saying the rescued children were not only protected but were also equipped with vocational skills to secure a respectable livelihood.
She expressed her appreciation for the role of philanthropists for their continuous support, noting that such contributions help bring joy and dignity to the lives of vulnerable children.
All arrangements for the ceremony, including dowry, clothes, and meals, were managed with respect, and the couples were sent off with dignity. The mass marriage initiative is held regularly, and many children benefit from it every year.
The minister said that the Punjab government’s vision for social protection has been translated into practical measures, through strong cooperation between the state, society and charitable organizations. She extended her best wishes to the newlyweds and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering vulnerable communities.
