Islamabad, March 24, 2026 Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) on Tuesday announced the successful start of oil production from the Basaki 13 development well, marking a historic achievement. PakistanFirst successful horizontal oil well in a clastic reservoir (Lower Juru-sands).
located in Hyderabad In Sindh region, Basaki 13 currently produces 460 barrels of oil per day.
The well was drilled to a depth of 2,966 metres, including a horizontal section of 546 metres. Advanced geo-guidance technology enabled precise navigation within a narrow three-metre drilling window, ensuring optimal placement within the reservoir’s sweet spot.
The well was completed and tested using a short-string electric submersible pump (ESP), specifically optimized for horizontal well configurations.
Despite the challenging reservoir conditions, the horizontal drilling approach significantly enhanced reservoir exposure, resulting in approximately three-fold increased production compared to corresponding wells under similar conditions.
Pasakhi-13 is part of the Pasakhi & Pasakhi North Development and Production Lease (D&PL), in which OGDC has a 100% operating interest.
This achievement reinforces OGDC’s commitment to innovation, technical excellence and the deployment of advanced technologies compatible with global standards. It also strengthens the company’s role in enhancing domestic hydrocarbon production and contributing to Pakistan’s long-term energy security.
