Prime Minister orders upgrade of historic Jamia Mosque in Rawalpindi

Rawalpindi (Urdu Point Network, March 23, 2026) Punjab Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the complete modernization of one of the oldest and largest mosques in Rawalpindi.

Based on the directives of the Prime Minister, a government delegation including senior parliamentarian Tahira Aurangzeb, Federalism Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi and Senior Provincial Minister Maryam Aurangzeb visited the historic Jami Hanafi Mosque and Anwar Mustafa Madrasa, where the mosque’s preacher and its management briefed them on the condition and requirements of the mosque.

According to details, Maryam Aurangzeb issued immediate instructions to repair and renovate the historic building.

She said the Prime Minister also sought to develop a comprehensive security plan for the mosque.

The damaged floors, boundary walls and other parts of the building were inspected during the visit.

Maryam Aurangzeb said that the Prime Minister pays special attention to the construction, expansion and restoration of mosques. She added that the university mosque Rawalpindi It was a historic heritage site and its preservation was vital to protecting the city’s history.

The senior minister stressed that mosques are an integral part of the country’s traditions and that their protection, development and improvement remain among the top priorities of the provincial government.
