He made the remarks while addressing a symposium titled “Minority Issues in Pakistan: Political Agency or Party Proxy – The Crisis of Representation”, organized by the Center for Public Policy and Governance at Furman Christian College here.
The minister said that while minorities in Pakistan If they are constitutionally represented, improving the electoral system would help ensure that their representatives effectively serve and reflect the interests of their communities.
He stressed that the inclusion of minorities in key decision-making is essential for building an inclusive society and that representation should go beyond token presence.
The symposium was attended by political experts, academics and representatives of civil society, where they discussed the challenges facing minority representation and the electoral system. They stressed the need for minority legislators to act independently in the interests of their communities.
