Khanewal (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 17 Mar, 2026) The District Rehabilitation and Persons with Disabilities Committee, headed by Deputy Commissioner Maliha Rasheed, held a meeting to discuss measures aimed at the care and accessibility of persons with disabilities.
During the session, the Deputy Commissioner agreed to provide wheelchairs for 33 people with special needs, with the aim of improving their mobility and access to public places. This initiative reflects the continuous efforts made by Punjab Prime Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to implement various programs to care for individuals with disabilities.
The meeting also confirmed the application of 3% of the employment quota for persons with disabilities in private institutions, including Nestlé, Jamhour Textile, and Quraishi Textile.
Deputy Director of Social Welfare, Mohamed Omar, and other members of the committee participated in the discussions and highlighted strategies to ensure effective implementation of the quota.
Additional directives included creating ramps and accessible restrooms in government and private offices to facilitate the movement of people with special needs. The Deputy Commissioner also assigned the Deputy Director of Colleges and the Department of Labor and Social Security with the specific task of monitoring and ensuring compliance with the 3% quota in the private sector.
Deputy Commissioner Maliha Rasheed stated that providing assistive devices and improving infrastructure is crucial to enhancing the independence and quality of life of persons with disabilities.
