Pakistan and KfW sign a grant worth EUR 18.00 million for hydropower and renewable energy

Islamabad (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 13 March 2026) Muhammad Hamir Karim, Secretary, Economic Affairs Department and Sebastian Jacobi, Country Director of the German Government Development Bank (KfW) signed a grant agreement.

Under the agreement, KfW will provide grant assistance worth EUR 18.00 million to the Government of Pakistan to promote hydropower and renewable energy in the northern areas of Pakistan, a statement issued here on Friday said.

The grant funding will contribute to providing clean and green electricity in the northern regions by taking advantage of abundant water resources, and improving the living standards and livelihoods of the local people and the region.

Mr. Muhammad Hamir Karim, Secretary General of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, thanked the German government for the grant that will help meet the growing energy needs in the region while using environmentally friendly solutions.

He said that these initiatives are truly praiseworthy as they are geared to impact the lives of the common man. He added that the Government of Pakistan appreciates the support provided by the German Government to invest in such schemes and looks forward to continuing to enhance cooperation in the future.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sebastian Jacobi, Country Director of KfW, said that through this grant, residents of the northern regions will have access to green and sustainable energy, which will contribute to the social and economic uplift of the masses. This will also help create more job opportunities and boost tourism in the region.
