The Uzbek delegation arrives in Lahore

Lahore (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – March 13, 2026) A high-level delegation from Uzbekistan headed by the Governor of Tashkent Province Zower Mirzayev arrived in the capital of the region on Friday.

The delegation members held an important meeting with Punjab Agriculture Minister Iftikhar Ali Sahu and Livestock Minister Ahmed Aziz Tarar. The aim of the visit was to strengthen bilateral trade relations. Detailed discussions were held with the delegation regarding agricultural commodities and dairy products.

Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Agriculture Minister Iftikhar Ali Sahu said that Punjab contributes more than 70 percent of the country’s total agricultural production. “Cotton, wheat, maize, rice, sugarcane, potato, quinoa and mango are the major crops in Punjab,” he said.

He also stated that the President of Uzbekistan visited her Pakistan Last month, he expressed interest in importing 300,000 tons of potatoes from Pakistan.

He added that there are broad opportunities for cooperation between the two countries in the field of agricultural research.

He also noted that joint working groups will be formed between the Ministries of Agriculture and Livestock and the Government of Uzbekistan. A comprehensive agenda for these working groups is being prepared, and regular online meetings will be held to discuss the agenda.

He further stressed that bilateral cooperation between businessmen will also be strengthened.

Punjab Livestock Minister Ahmed Aziz Tarar said, “Punjab produces 62 percent of the country’s total milk production.” He added that there is strong potential to increase exports of halal meat and poultry products to Uzbekistan.

Meanwhile, Tashkent Governor Zohir Mirzayev said that Pakistani rice has strong demand in Uzbekistan, and Uzbekistan is a major market for Pakistani potatoes.

He pointed out that due to the current regional tensions, there are some challenges facing import and export.

The governor also stated that Uzbekistan is ready to provide land and other resources for potato cultivation and research, while the Uzbek government will also cooperate with Pakistani farmers in livestock breeding.
