Punjab Police equips 747 police station vehicles with crime scene equipment

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Karim on Tuesday said that vehicles of 747 police stations across the province have been equipped with crime scene protection equipment to ensure timely preservation of evidence and improve investigation standards.

According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, the initiative was launched under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz with the title “Justice at Your Doorstep”.

The spokesman said that special kits containing crime scene cones, cordon tapes and evidence markers have been placed in police station vehicles so that the crime scene can be secured immediately after any accident occurs and evidence is protected from loss.

IGP Abdul Karim said protecting the crime scene was a key element in the investigation, and timely preservation of the crime scene ensured that evidence remained intact, which ultimately helped improve the quality of investigations.

Police officers have also been trained to be first responders, Additional Inspector General Punjab Shahzada Sultan said, adding that 500 master trainers have already been prepared for this purpose. He said that in cooperation with coordinators from the Punjab Forensic Sciences Agency, professional training of police personnel will continue, while officers from the rank of constable to inspector will be trained on modern crime scene management.

He added that training police officers in accordance with the requirements of modern forensic science aims to make the investigation process more effective, transparent and in accordance with modern standards.
