Islamabad, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News – 25 March 2026) A court in Islamabad has acquitted a domestic worker accused in a theft case involving about 250 million rupees after the prosecution failed to provide evidence.
The court noted that only Rs 2,000 was recovered during the investigation despite allegations of major theft.
Islamabad East Judicial Magistrate Rizwan Uddin accepted the acquittal application of Rukhsana Bibi in the case registered at Loy Pir police station in January 2024. A resident of the PWD area accused the domestic worker of stealing Rs400,000, £500,000 and Rs500,000. SAR From her house.
Defense lawyer Habib Handala said that the accused was innocent and involved in a false case motivated by malice. The court minutes showed that charges were brought against the defendants on September 18, 2025, and the prosecution was given several opportunities to present witnesses.
But no witness appeared before the court despite repeated opportunities. The court observed that even if the evidence had been recorded, the chances of conviction were slim based on the available record.
In its written decision, the court cast doubt on the allegation that such a large sum of money was kept in the home and that access to it was given to a domestic worker. It also indicated that no legal or documentary evidence was provided regarding the theft of foreigners currency.
The court described the prosecution’s case as questionable and stated that under settled law, the benefit of doubt should be given to the accused. She also said that continuing the trial would waste judicial time that could be used in other cases.
The court also noted that the recovered Rs 2,000 had no identifying details and had no legal value and the accused Ruksana Bibi was acquitted under Section 249-A of the Criminal Procedure Code.
